Second Phase of Protein-Sparing Modified Fasting: Realimentation

Phase II of the Protein-Sparing Modified Fasting diet is called Realimentation. Once you are within 5 pounds of your goal weight, we will gradually reintroduce grocery foods back into your diet under our professional supervision. This purpose of this four-week process of Phase 2 PSMF is to slowly increase calories and restore digestive functions from fasting mode back to their normal capacity. Upon starting Realimentation, you will receive a detailed packet with information on which foods you may eat from each food group and the correct portion sizes and calorie counts. Week 1 = Five meal replacements + protein, salad and vegetable

Week 2 = Four meal replacements + protein, salad, vegetable and fruit

Week 3 = Three meal replacements + protein, salad, vegetable, fruit and dairy

Week 4 = Two meal replacements + protein, salad, vegetable, fruit, dairy and starch

Metabolic Testing - At the end of week four of this individualized meal plan for the bariatric diet, we will conduct an impedance test here in our Birmingham office and use an indirect calorimeter to measure your metabolism. From these tests, we will design an individualized meal plan that will let you know just how many calories you can consume each day to maintain your weight within 5 pounds. Dr. Morgan feels this information is vital to your success in maintenance! The customized meal plan will include foods that you like to prepare and eat. Most of them also include your favorite meal replacements because they are so portable, affordable and easy to prepare! Dieting after gastric sleeve surgery has never been so easy or effective!
