Bio: Dr. John M. Morgan

Dr. John M Morgan was raised in the Birmingham area, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and earned his medical degree at the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Carraway Methodist Medical Center.

Dr. Morgan has been practicing OB/GYN at the same hospital for 21 years. He is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecology. Dr. Morgan has always had an interest in weight loss and weight maintenance, and has enjoyed helping his patients stay healthy. Some 15 years ago, he became a certified diplomat of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, completing his oral and written boards in 1997. Dr. Morgan is one of about three physicians in the state of Alabama who is a diplomat. He has personally seen over 20,000 patients in the last twenty years. Our recent article, Medically Supervised Very Low Calorie (VLCD) Weight Loss Program: A 24 Week Assessment of Weight Loss and Medication Changes in Patients with Diagnosed Risk Factors for Chronic Disease, will be published in The Bariatrician this winter and he is currently working on an article about weight maintenance after weight loss with The University of Alabama.

Dr. Morgan’s interests include obstetrics, robotic surgery, diet and weight control, and perimenopaus, and menopause hormone replacement therapy. Other interests include cycling, art (his oldest daughter was named top artist in the Birmingham area in 2011) and hanging out with his family (when his youngest daughter comes home from college, life is good). He also loves a good Friday night watching his son play high school football, and he enjoys traveling with his wife, who was his high school sweetheart.
